Town of Islip Great River Ramp - use 383 Great River Rd. with your GPS (house next door to this location) - Latitude 40.723313 / Longitude -73.149925 - Southern State Parkway East to exit 46 (Timber Point Rd.) - Bear to your right towards Great River. Stay on Timber Point Rd. and bear left to River Rd. Take River Rd. until end and make left on Great River Rd. Entrance to Town of Islip Great River Ramp will be about 300’ on your right at Old Dock Rd. Look for our white van with trailer of kayaks. Please park on left side on grass and back up or go forward to fence so you don’t stick out on blacktop. Do not park parallel to fence or you will take up spots for others. Parking is free as a guest of JK Kayak & SUP.
1 hr. & 2 hr. trips include on land instruction before venturing out to paddle.
Our 2 hr paddle will take us across the river and into the canals of Oakdale. Beautiful and serene, we will paddle past homes, under bridges and witness the areas wildlife through the winding waters.
This area named “Idle Hour” was once the property of William K. Vanderbilt and his 110 room mansion built in 1876 for 6 million dollars on his 900 acre property. The mansion was later part of Dowling College and now The National Park Service.
We will also venture past the estate of William Bayard Cutting (Westbrook Farms) now the Bayard Cutting Arboretum.
